Safeguarding and Whistleblowing Policy

The Blagrave Trust provides support to organisations, primarily through grant-funding, that work with young people and young adults in all their diversity.  This work is underpinned by our belief that we have a responsibility to promote the welfare of children and young people and keep them safe.  Our Safeguarding and Whistleblowing Policy applies to all staff, trustees, any volunteers, students or anyone working or volunteering on behalf of the Trust and coming into contact with children and young people.

Principles for Working With and Paying Young People

The Blagrave Trust is a Living Wage Funder – that means that we are committed to both paying the Living Wage ourselves and supporting and enabling our charity partners to do the same. The principles set out in this policy aim to ensure that we are consistent in how we work with young people and that our way of working is centred around their best interests.

The Blagrave Trust holds investments totalling c. £41 million.

1/3rd of our investments are held with by Greenbank – Rathbones since 2019 when we actively moved our investments into an ethical and sustainable investment portfolio.

A further 1/3rd is invested with Casenove in their flagship Sustainable Growth Fund.  This investment vehicle was developed on the back of the ESG olympics which you can read more about here. Together with the Friends Provident Foundation and Joffe Charitable Trust the ESG olympics launched in March 2020 aimed to shine a light on ESG investing bringing it ‘out of the shadows’.  Following a public presentation and scrutiny, Cazenove was selected out of over 50 asset managers. Climate change is a key lens through which this fund is assessed and investment decisions made.   You can read the resulting report about the state of the sector of ESG here.

The final 1/3rd of our assets is invested in a commercial and residential property portfolio, primarily across East Anglia.

Our investment policy sets out our aspirations to fulfil our ambitions through our investment strategy ensuring consistency of values across our work.  The Board reviews this policy annually.

Blagrave signed the funder commitment to climate change in November 2019. We review and publish our progress annually against our commitment.
